![]() Indeed, the narrator often points out that war and pestilence are both uncontrollable, unpredictable aspects of the human condition that bring senseless suffering. The mass graves, the militaristic occupation of Oran, and even the "deratization" vehicle that rattles through the town like a machine gun all contribute to the feeling that Oran is at war. Oran is quickly made parallel to a war zone after the outbreak of the plague. Still, the reader’s indifference to dead rats is like the universe’s indifference to dead people. When they thrive at the end, that is a positive sign that humans in Oran will too. Although they seem ominous, they are harmless parallels and portents of the human condition rather than a threat to humanity. ![]() They die in the streets, on playgrounds, in businesses…and then people follow suit. The rats don’t simply symbolize the plague. ![]()

![]() ![]() In the dream, they are going to a funeral, and Clara knows she is profoundly sad, but she doesn’t know yet whose funeral it is.Meanwhile, Clara and Christian get to be friends (much to Tucker’s chagrin), and Clara learns a lot more about angel “society.” There are some confrontations with a “black wing” (a fallen angel) and some lessons from a full-blooded (non-fallen) angel. Again, Christian is a part of them rather than Tucker. She worries about the repercussions, but so far, all that has happened is that she has new visions. At the end of book one, Clara, who is now 17, defied her visions (which putatively are to direct her toward her purpose as an angel-blood) in order to rescue her boyfriend Tucker from a big fire instead of going first to rescue Christian, the boy in her visions. ![]() Note: This book contains a mild spoiler for book one (but NOT the big reveal), and no spoilers for this book, book twoThis is book two of the “Unearthly” series about teenagers who are part angels, and their problems they have because of this mixed status (see my review of book one, here). ![]() ![]() ![]() What? We do know the answer, God loves us because of Jesus. In one cringe-inducing paragraph Chan actually asks, so why does God love messed up people like us so much and his response is that he doesn't really know. ![]() It's not rooted in the gospel of Jesus Christ, but in this amorphous notion of God's love. The problem is, the house Chan builds has a pretty soggy foundation. But because this book has made such a big splash in the Church in the last few years, I felt that it warranted a very careful consideration and, to be honest, I found it to be a well-intentioned but profoundly flawed book. I have no doubt that Francis Chan is a solid follower of Christ with a big heart for his God and his neighbor. Chan argues that our call to live radically is rooted in God's crazy love for us, and that's certainly true. The American Church certainly is lukewarm and quickly going the way of the increasingly churchless countries in Europe. Chan seeks to combate the "lukewarmness" of the American Church by calling us to live a radical "obsessed" life for Jesus. Mark this one under the Good Premise, Terrible Execution category. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In other words, a vibrating guitar string can make notes all throughout the spectrum of an octave, but it can never go outside of an octave framework if the vibratory pitch was moved higher, such as by reaching double its original value in cycles per second, then the pitch would simply enter into a higher octave, but essentially sound the same. In hindsight, it appears that this numerology is, in fact, sitting right in front of Kaku’s face, as he mentions “the vibrations of a string.” The numerology Kaku was speaking of is the widespread occurrence of the number 8 in Ramanujan’s physics equations, which are used to map out higher dimensions. Michio Kaku’s quote: “It’s as though there is some kind of deep numerology being manifested in these functions that no one understands.” In the previous chapter, we discussed how “Superstring Theory” and the physics of Tony Smith both match up with the idea of an Octave of dimensions, with the Platonic Solids underlying them. We then explore how archetypes and CUs are related. The result is a guided tour through a set of metaphysical ideas that most people have never considered before. The metaphysical properties of the CU are explained by Seth in careful detail. What we find is an in-depth study of the Consciousness Unit. This chapter is a direct excerpt from the end portions of “The Seth Material,” the original debut of Jane Roberts’ channeling efforts in 1971. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.
